Clearly defined aim (a purpose with a desired outcome), All group members must have undergone suitable training, All group members must be involved in the planning, preparation and implementation of their Practice and Qualifying Journeys, Groups must complete at least one Practice Journey, All Journeys are through own physical effort, on land or water (motorized transportation cannot be used throughout the Journey), Journey environment must be new and unfamiliar to all group members, Minimum time spent on purposeful effort each day (6 hours at Bronze, 7 hours at Silver, 8 hours at Gold), Accommodations are self-sufficient (tent, hut etc.) At the completion of each journey each Participant must be assessed to ensure they have each fulfilled all the relevant requirements. Open Duke of Edinburgh Programs Your Journey We pride ourselves in facilitating a fun and supportive learning environment to empower individuals and prepare young people for life. The Adventurous Journey is 3 days and 2 nights. *Purposeful effort means time spent towards accomplishing the purpose of the journey. Clothing List – with comments as for equipment (see above). Plan your journey with your Assessor(s) and/or Supervisor(s). Preparation and training and at least one Time associated with sleeping, cooking and eating is in addition to this time. The Adventurous Journey provides Participants with the opportunity to learn more about the wider environment, as well as to develop their self-confidence, team work and health. Sufficient and relevant preparation and training is provided at each level of the Duke of Ed to promote safety. ii. Choose your adventure You can choose from 3 types of Adventurous Journeys: Assessors both help Participants set goals for their chosen activity and assess whether or not a Participant has undertaken the required effort and has strived to achieve their goals. To help ensure this, all journeys (practice and qualifying) must be supervised by an adult who is suitably skilled, experienced and/or qualified (the Supervisor) with respect to the journey (form of travel, terrain, age group) to be undertaken. Adventurous Journey 2 days + 1 night ii. Each day we will paddle 20-30 km and camp at a designated area. All journeys will adhere to the Wilderness Code of Behaviour as outlined. 12. There are a few extra requirements for Direct Entrants: For the Skills, Service and Physical Recreation Sections, you will need to complete 2 for 12 months and 1 for 18 months. SCHOOL ADVENTUROUS JOURNEYS BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD AusJourney is a Child Safe Organisation that provides a ‘one-stop shop’ for schools who need Bronze, Silver and/or Gold Adventurous Journeys for their students. As part of a small team, participants plan, train for and undertake a journey with a purpose in an unfamiliar environment. Practice Journey(s): participants take on at least one Practice Journey to ensure they will be successful and self-sufficient as a team on the Qualifying Journey.
